Our Charities
Each year Stillness Infant School supports the amazing charity work of Voluntary Services Lewisham (VSL) at Christmas time.
VSL are always at the heart of Lewisham, serving our local community in a variety of different ways. They have been raising money to support families every Christmas for over 50 years. They support vulnerable individuals and families in Lewisham who experience social and economic hardship.
The Christmas period can be a difficult time for many people and families in need of support. We aim to ease the burden that Christmas creates by working with VSL to help provide food hampers for individuals and couples, Big Red Boxes for families, toys for children, and vouchers for teenagers and young adults. For some of these children this will be the only present they will receive.
They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
As well as general donations, we collect different targeted donations, such as Easter Eggs at Easter, or donations that are linked to our PHSE lessons, such as toothpaste or toilet rolls when we’re learning about the importance of personal hygiene
Children in Need is the BBC’s charity whose mission is to help ensure every child in the UK is safe, happy, secure and has the opportunities they need to reach their potential.
They support children and young people affected by a whole range of disadvantages such as poverty, disability, illness, distress or trauma. They also work with a range of partners to tackle some of the most pressing issues facing the UK’s children and young people today, including: mental health and wellbeing, violence impacting young people, child sexual exploitation, holiday hunger; access to employment, and social injustice.
Stillness Infant School supports their annual November appeal and we raised over £600 for this amazing charity in 2021. The children dressed in bright colours and did lots of ‘Bear themed’ learning.
Comic Relief’s mission is to drive positive change through the power of entertainment. Thanks to donations, Comic Relief continues to make a difference to the lives of millions of people across the UK and around the world.
They believe that a just world, free from poverty, is possible, and that those closest to the issues have the best solutions. So they partner with amazing projects and organisations that are working to tackle four of the biggest challenges society faces today; improving mental health, a safe place for everyone, a world where children survive and thrive, freedom from fear, violence and discrimination.
We support their biennial Red Nose Days and Sports Relief Days, where the children dress in red and try to get the rest of their class laughing at their jokes or take part in a variety of outlandish sporting activities.
Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity for the 70,000 people living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK. Since 1959, we’ve been supporting families living with muscle-wasting conditions. We provide vital information, advice, resources and support for people with these conditions, their families and the professionals who work with them.
We support their Go Orange day each year with the children all wearing orange and awareness raising assemblies led by one of our families.
This year, February 2022, we all wore bright colours to school and welcomed back George along with Louise from Muscular Dystrophy UK, to talk to use about how muscular dystrophy affects his everyday life. Louise told us how our donations will help important research.
This year February 2022 our fabulous community have raised £450.
